The development of new and the optimization of existing concepts for the automobile and aircraft industry require a strong weight reduction of structural and drive components. Thereby, high strength magnesium, aluminum and titanium alloys play a crucial role.
These materials find wide application in industry already. Nevertheless, the future challenge will be the extension of the field of applications by developing appropriate process techniques.
Our focus is on the development and optimization of material adapted heat treatment and forming processes for modern lightweight construction alloys, particularly high-strength aluminum and titanium alloys. For us, it is possible to find the best processing parameters in a very efficient manner, by employing modern simulations and investigative methods. Additionally, it is possible to evaluate the applicability of particular metals for new processing techniques, e.g. selected laser beam melting (LaserCusing).
For that purpose, we have manufacturing equipment available at NMB, which was developed by ourselves or conforms to industrial standards. As an example for that stands a modern forming press and facilities for contact heat treatments and selected laser beam melting.
